The Director, Global Sourcing & Production will collaborate with the Merchant/Buyer to lead all sourcing/production activities from ideation to delivery (stores and ecommerce customers) at a fast-paced global fashion apparel retailer. This position will utilize significant expertise in global sourcing and private brand development to deliver trend-right products that directly impact company sales and margin goals. Critical activities include sourcing, costing, WIP management, supplier collaboration, manufacturing efficiency, social compliance, assortment planning, negotiations, contracting, process improvement, and supplier quality enhancement. 
Responsibilities include:
  • Create new Go-To-Market calendars for both Seasonal Product and Fast Track
  • Establish global factory relationships and capabilities, including Latin America, South America, Asia, etc.
  • Oversee and continuously refine the global sourcing, production, and product development process
  • Align with merchandising and company strategy to deliver the right products at the right time
  • Define and develop strategies for production and souring of apparel fabric and materials
  • Negotiate price, quality, service levels and delivery terms for purchased products and services
  • Introduce competitive bidding and spend consolidation initiatives where appropriate
  • Maintain strong partnerships with existing supplier base and develop new supplier relationships reduce risk, increase innovation, and best perform to company’s requirements
  • Make sure factories, sourcing policies, and procedures are compliant with laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines
  • Demonstrate the importance of accountability, decisiveness, and continuous improvement
  • Maintain working knowledge of business trends, fashion innovations, colors, styles, materials, and methods
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams, including merchandising peers, on important projects
  • Develop, attract, and retain a high-performing team
  • Bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) in business, merchandising, marketing, fashion, design
  • Deep knowledge of the apparel industry, ideally with extensive experience in the Los Angeles area as well
  • 10+ years of experience in global sourcing for fashion apparel, footwear, or accessories
  • At least 3 years of experience leading and managing a fabrics product development team
  • Excellent negotiation, coaching, and influencing skills
  • Active experience managing a budget and P&L
  • Global sourcing expertise
  • Superior communication skills
  • Cross-cultural awareness and savvy
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Experience utilizing Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, but with a bias to solve problems without spending a lot of money on systems an
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 50% of the time, with periods of higher or lower travel, depending on business needs
