Head of Vendor Management (ecommerce merchandising)

Seeking an exceptional ecommerce senior leader in vendor management for merchandise (NEW POSITION), with the strategic chops to manage $1B+ of annual sales, and with proven experience leading large teams that managed a business >$250M. This is a full lifecycle vendor management role, where your team will directly enable multi-billion-dollar online, direct to consumer sales growth. You will lead teams of ~45 employees that will quickly grow to 125+. The teams are responsible for:
 
  1. New Business Partnership Development. This team seeks and onboards new brands, including terms, discounts, co-op packages, etc. This is all about enabling growth through acquisition of new and replacement brands, including vendor pipeline creation and management.
  2. Assortment Planning. This team defines items to purchase, focuses on continuously improving vendor productivity. Strong financial acumen and KPI improvement.
 
The company has very aggressive yet achievable growth targets as they expand exponentially. Multiple distribution centers in the United States, building more as well. Current experience as VP / Senior Director of Buying, Vendor Relationships, or Vendor Management ideal. Deep expertise required at a pure play ecommerce company, or within a high volume ecommerce division at a retail company.
 
This is not a remote working role, but you can choose where to be based: Austin, TX (~40% travel), Omaha, NE, or Lincoln, NE (both 15%-20% travel). Your teams will be located in all 3 locations, so incredible leadership is needed to effectively drive performance and alignment from afar. Holiday season is coming, so you'll jump in with both feet and hit the ground running.

  • Ecommerce vendor management leadership: you have successfully led top-performing vendor management capabilities in high volume ecommerce.
  • Financial acumen: you will own contribution margin, and you must have a deep understanding of the financial levers that your team can pull  in order to continue to improve margins. You'll teach your team to understand and impact company financials through their daily work.
  • Performance-driven: you develop, manage, and execute to ensure that lofty goals are met. You constantly explore new ways to ensure vendor goals are met (pricing, inventory, marketplace channels, content, etc.
  • Data disciple: you have a strong track record of compiling, analyzing, and using data to actually implement significant changes within your company.
  • Excellent communicator and presenter: you easily break down complex scenarios into digestible formats for stakeholders. You ensure that stakeholders and C-Suite executives are regularly informed regarding team performance and plans.
  • High accountability: you demonstrate a sense of ownership in all of your leadership, communications, and actions.
  • Partnership focused: you heavily influence and proactively partner with leaders in other parts of the organization (merchandising, inventory management, pricing, analytics, operations, marketplace channels, marketing, IT, supply chain), and you look for areas where you can make a difference outside of your own vertical.
